Vanitas-atis
La Vanitas is defined as an artistic genre that highlights the emptiness of life and the relevance of death as the end of worldly pleasures. (vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas = vanity of vanities everything is vanity. This work is born from the inspiration in a Japanese legend called “the dream of the fisherman's wife”. From my work I want to reflect on the essential values of the human being in today's society; in this case represented by means of a jeweled woman with sensual clothes who only care about appearance; This woman worships a diabolical being (represented in this case by a Japanese devil, Hannya) who enchants the woman in love with her own vanity. I represent this woman taking a selfie with her own devil. It is an allegorical piece about the vanity that social networks produce in the human being, wrapped in an octopus that drags it towards Hannya = technology, without being able to escape. The background is a mirror and the viewer is part of the work. It is an allegory about the loss of connection between the human being and the wisdom of nature. Piece made entirely with the technique of hand bobbin lace, s between 2019/20.
